Rays Swept By Tigers

The Detroit Tigers (25-38) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (36-23) 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Tropicana Field. With the win, the Rays were swept in the three-game series by the Tigers.

Both teams traded runs in the first and the second inning - for the Rays, they got an RBI single from Yandy Diaz in the first and a solo homer from Cedric Mullins in the second to account for their offense. That would be all the offense the Rays put together on this one, and Detroit pulled away from there.

The Tigers got one run in the third and three in the fourth to turn the game into a blowout. They added one in the ninth to make it 7-2, which would prove to be the final score. Nick Martinez (5-2, 2.29) took the loss in this one, allowing six earned runs on nine hits in his four innings of work in which he struck out one and walked one.

The Rays are now off on Thursday before travelling to Miami to play the Marlins in a three-game series beginning on Friday night. Drew Rasmussen (4-2, 3.36) is scheduled to start on Friday for the Rays and face Tyler Phillips (0-1, 1.63) for the Marlins. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
